Iran urged the United States Congress on from Wednesday to issue a “political statement” that Washington will remain committed to a possible agreement in Vienna talks to reinstate the 2015 nuclear deal.

The deal offered sanctions relief to Tehran in exchange for borders on son nuclear program US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew in 2018 and reimposed heavy penalties.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian urged the United States guarantee on the so called plan global joint of Stock (JCPOA) in a meeting with the Financial Times published on son ministry website.

“As a business of principle, public opinion in Iran cannot accept as guarantee the words of a head of State, not to mention the United States, due to the withdrawal of JCPOA Americans,” he said.

He stressed that he had asked the Iranian negotiators to propose to the Western parties that “at least their parliaments or parliament speakers, including the United States Congress, may declare in the form of a political statement of their commitment to the agreement and to return to the implementation of the JCPOA.”

Vienna talks involve Iran as well as Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia directly and the United States indirectly.

They aim to bring the United States back to the nuclear agreement, in particular by lifting of punishments on Iran, and to ensure from Tehran full compliance with its commitments.

“Iran’s commitments are also clear like a mathematical formula,” Amir-Abdollahian said.

“It’s absolutely clear what we are supposed to do and how these measurements will be verified by the IAEA,” he said, adding that other parties should have “no concerns.”

“But we remain concerned mainly on guarantees” from the United States, he said, adding that “we are facing problems during this period because the other party lacks a serious initiative.”
