UN urges Lebanon to change the path of “impoverishment” of the population

The international organization said in a report released by Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights Olivier de Schutter following his visit to Lebanon in November 2021 that “Lebanon must change its course.” “The misfortune that has befallen the population can be reversed with leadership that puts social justice, transparency and accountability at the heart of its actions,” the report says. According to the report, “the Lebanese state, including its central bank, is responsible for human rights violations, including the unnecessary impoverishment of the population, which has resulted from this man-made crisis” and “has been completely overcome.”
