Saudi Aramco launches Bangkok Team Golf Championship Series

The Saudi Aramco Championship Series returns to the State Investment Fund teams with a new look, in locations around the world and with major financial prizes.

The series debuted on the Women’s European Tour calendar last year, offering 4 tournaments with a total prize pool of $4 million, $1 million per tournament, in which elite golfers from around the world competed both in teams and alone.

The series started from London in the United Kingdom, through Sotogrande in southern Spain, from there to New York in the United States of America and ended on the Red Sea coast in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A unique tournament system allowed 30 elite international female golfers to select team members in a manner similar to that used in the NFL, where each leader selected a second player before a third player was randomly selected, adding a local amateur member to complete the team line-up. .

The Saudi Aramco Team Championship Series has stunned the golf community around the world by showcasing the fun and exciting side of the sport as teams take to the course to the tune of an instrument chosen by team members as they prepare to hit the first hole.

Apart from the competitive aspect, which allows the amateur player to play a key and important role in improving the team’s result and helping his female colleagues to get the maximum possible number of points, which are added to their balance sheet for the Costa del Sol title for the best player at the end of the year, and influences the ranking of Rolex among professional women.

The World Series returns for the second time this year with a new destination, Thailand. The first tournament of the Saudi Aramco Team Series, presented by the State Investment Fund, will be held from May 12 to 14, 2022 at the Country Club Stadium in Bangkok, with a total prize pool of one million US dollars.

Last year, the first Saudi Aramco Team Championship series was held, which was the first unique event of its kind at the professional tour level in the world of golf, combining team and individual aspects. This year’s edition will see an update to the tournament system where team competitions will take place over two days, during which the winning team will be crowned and the prize allocated to teams will be $500,000, with the best individual scores and finalists competing on the third day. to determine the players who will win individual prizes, which have a prize pool of $500,000.

International stars and rising local talent

This week the Thai trio of Patti Tawatanakit, former world number one and 14th Arya Jotanugar, along with her sister Morya Jotanugar. On the women’s side, 18-year-old up-and-coming star Chanuknan Angorasarani, who took the lead in the Asian Golf Championship at Siam Country Club and Stadium, is hosting them. Except for his fellow countrywoman Chunlada Chattanon.

In addition to these names, the Women’s European Tour will feature some of the world’s biggest names, including England’s Charlie Hall and America’s Kelly Wally. Georgia Hall of England, Nelly Korda of the United States, Anna Nordqvist of Sweden, Danielle Kang of the United States and her compatriots Alison Lee and Lexi Thompson participated in last year’s World Series Championship, and are expected to take part this year as well.
