The Foreign Relations Committee of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights of the Arab Parliament held its first meeting via videoconference today under the chairmanship of Dr. Jihad Abdullah Al-Fadeel, with the participation of members of the Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights. The Arab Parliament, in a statement today, explained that during the meeting, it was decided to launch the first forum on human rights to present the Arab Observatory for Human Rights in the month of October, as part of the observatory’s current work plan, in addition to the following on the measures taken by the observatory to obtain observer status in the UN Human Rights Council, what requirements for this have been met, and the deadlines for completing all procedures so that the observatory becomes an effective Arab instrument and supports the crystallization of the correct mental image of the human rights situation in Arab countries in the UN forums, especially the Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
During the meeting, the members of the committee stressed the need to establish a specific schedule for the priorities of the work of the observatory and targeted events, conferences and seminars for the current year, especially the conclusion of agreements and protocols on cooperation with national bodies and structures dealing with human rights in the Arab countries, and the need to finalize the Arab database on Human Rights, and coordinating with the Media and Communications Committee of the Observatory on this matter.
