The New York City Department of Emergency Management released a 90-second video advising residents on what to do in the event of a nuclear attack.
Officials have said there is no specific threat of a nuclear attack, but now is the right time to make a public announcement. She then told New Yorkers they needed to take three “important steps,” starting with getting into the building as quickly as possible. The second step involves barricading inside, preferably in the basement, and shutting down any sources of dust or sources that would leak radioactive residue if there was an explosion outside. The last step involves keeping the media and government up to date so that everything is clear.

“As the threat landscape continues to evolve, it’s important for New Yorkers to know that we are preparing for any imminent threats and are providing them with the resources they need to stay safe and informed,” said EMD Commissioner Zach Eskol.
A nuclear attack is “unlikely” but would have “significant consequences,” MP Christina Farrell told radio station 1010 WINS. “I don’t know if it would be the right time to put the PSA on nuclear alert, but it’s very important and we want New Yorkers to be ready – so now is the time.”
“We know that this substance is very dangerous and, frankly, can be scary, but it is very important,” Farrell added. “There is currently no specific threat.”
While Iscol and Farrell answered the main question about the PSA – its timing – asked by the public on social media, many skeptics pointed out that the advice in the video is of dubious value in the event of a real nuclear war. Monday’s issue recalled some of the “crouch and cover” advice that was common in the early years of the atomic age.
“It’s as useful as hiding under the covers,” one Twitter user said, noting that New York would just “disappear.”
He published the latest map showing that he would detonate a 15 megaton thermonuclear explosion over Manhattan, indicating that there was no one left alive who could follow the instructions.
It is said to be the first nuclear PSA manufactured in New York since 1962, the year of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
