Britain’s most famous prime ministerial candidate ‘threatens’ Tik Tok

During an important debate over the post of leader of the Conservative Party, i.e. Prime Minister of Great Britain, the most prominent candidate made a “threat” to the famous Tik Tok app.

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, the favorite to replace British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the Conservative Party leadership election, said on Monday she would crack down on Chinese tech companies like TikTok if they win.

“We absolutely have to crack down on these companies,” Trace said, when asked in a BBC televised debate whether they would deal with Chinese tech companies.

Terrace faces competition from former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak for the UK Prime Minister’s seat after other competitors leave.

The name of the new prime minister is to be announced on September 5, after 200,000 members of the Conservative Party voted by mail this summer.

Boris Johnson, who received an overwhelming majority in December 2019, announced a few weeks ago that he would step down after a wave of resignations of ministers and officials, and against the uprising of many Conservative MPs.

Whoever the new winner is, he will have difficulty restoring public confidence, which has been undermined by a series of scandals involving Johnson, from violating Covid-19 lockdown rules to appointing a deputy to the government despite reports of allegations of sexual harassment.

The British economy is also facing high inflation, mounting debt and low growth as citizens grapple with the worst financial crisis in decades.

On top of all this, the country is facing an energy crisis exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, which has driven fuel prices up.
