British machinists went on a 24-hour strike today, shutting down traffic in many parts of England, Scotland and Wales.
Today’s strikes have affected nine rail companies, stopping most flights between London and the Midlands, northern England, Scotland and south Wales, and the West Midlands and the southwest of England.
The strikes began after rail operators failed to offer wage offers due to the rise in the cost of living in the UK.
