At least one person died and 17 others were injured Saturday when a car plowed into a crowd outside a store in Berwick, Pennsylvania, where the group was raising money for victims of a recent fire, police and local media said.
Authorities charged the 24-year-old man on Sunday with two murder charges in connection with a death in front of a store and a separate death. After Adrian Osvaldo Sora Reyes shocked the crowd around 18:00 (22:00 GMT), the suspect drove to nearby Nescoback, where police said he killed a woman.
Police did not identify the woman and did not provide details of a motive. However, the Times Leader quoted the Lucerne County coroner’s office as saying the 56-year-old woman was the suspect’s mother.
Pennsylvania State Police said a judge ordered Reyes to be held without bail after Sunday’s hearing.
