The Ukrainian presidency announced on Thursday evening that Russian forces had seized control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the north of the country.
Alyona Shevtsova, Advisor to the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the Russians took control of the Chernobyl power plant, which threatens the security not only of Ukraine, but also of Europe.
This information was confirmed by the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, Mikhailo Podolyak.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on these news.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Russian forces are trying to control the “Chernobyl” nuclear power plant, considering it a “declaration of war on all of Europe”.
He wrote on Twitter: “Russian occupation forces are trying to take control of the Chernobyl power plant. Its defenders are sacrificing their lives so that the tragedy of 1986 is not repeated.”

In his speech to the Russian people, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation to protect Donbass in southeast Ukraine.
Putin stressed that Russia will work to disarm Ukraine, prevent nationalism in Ukraine and bring to justice the perpetrators of bloody crimes against civilians, including citizens of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that “the Russian army did not direct any missile, air or artillery strikes on Ukrainian cities” and that Russian forces hit military infrastructure, air defense facilities, military airfields and Ukrainian aviation with high-precision weapons.
The ministry stressed that “civilians are not in danger”, that “the Ukrainian border guards did not show any resistance, and Ukraine’s air defense systems were completely destroyed.”
