Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted he was shocked by his sudden departure from the London club, but the club will have a “special place” in his heart.
Tuchel was sacked last week after just seven games into the new season to lead Chelsea to the 2020 Champions League title, but was sacked by new owner Todd Boli and quickly replaced by Graham Potter.
Chelsea sacked Tuchel on Wednesday, the day after his surprise 1-0 away defeat to Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb in the first round of the Champions League group stage.
Tuchel took to social media for the first time since the unexpected events and said he hoped to stay at Stamford Bridge for a few years.
Chelsea finished third in the Premier League last season but are currently in sixth place after losses to Leeds United and Southampton.
“This is one of the hardest lines I’ve ever had to write and I wish I didn’t have to write it for many years,” he wrote on his Twitter account. I am shocked that my time at Chelsea has come to an end. This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. A big thank you to all the staff, players and fans for making me feel welcome right from the start.
