The British government announced on Saturday that the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth will be shown on Monday in about 125 cinemas across the UK and will be shown on huge screens in parks, squares and cathedrals.
The Culture Ministry said in a statement that the funeral, which will take place at Westminster Abbey, and the associated processions across London will be broadcast live on BBC, ITV and Sky television.
World leaders at the funeral
The funeral of the Queen, who died on September 8 at the age of 96, is expected to be attended by heads of state, prime ministers and members of royal families from around the world.
The government also declared the day of the funeral an official holiday. Funerals may be attended by more spectators than other major events in modern British history, including Princess Diana’s 1997 funeral, the London 2012 Olympics and royal weddings.
Duty free import
In turn, the United Kingdom Film Association said on Thursday that admission to cinemas will be free.
Hundreds of thousands of people lined up for hours this week to pay their respects to the body of Queen Elizabeth, which lay in Westminster Hall until Monday morning.
