The Lebanese parliament failed in the first round of the session to elect a new president of the country about a month before the expiration of the term of office of President Michel Aoun.

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri announced the end of the vote count, and the results of the first round of the presidential election session were as follows: “63 blanks, 36 votes for Representative Michel Moawad, 11 votes for Salim Eddeh, other names 12 votes,” according to the National Lebanese media agency.

This was followed by Nabih Berry announcing the session was adjourned due to lack of the necessary quorum and ended the session by saying “If there is no consensus, we cannot elect a president, parliament or Lebanon, and the next one As soon as I feel that I can come to a consensus I will convene a second session immediately.”

The first sessions of the presidential elections began on Nejmeh Square, led by the speaker of parliament after the quorum was secured for the session to be held in the presence of 120 deputies.

After the announcement of the constitutional articles, papers and envelopes were handed out to the deputies, and the voting process began with deputies calling to the ballot box to drop their ballots into it.

None of the loyalist blocs, whether in the March 8 Axis (Hezbollah and its allies), or in the opposition group and sovereign and successive forces, on the eve of the session, could clearly identify its candidate or candidates for the presidency.
