Walking along the beach in the British city of Wales, a young man, making a morning walk, saw tightly tied black bags floating on the water, and approaching them, he discovered a surprise.
The bags, which were about 30, contained small packets of pure first grade cocaine. According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, the cost of cocaine, accidentally found on a Welsh beach, is estimated at 90 million pounds.
The UK’s cocaine market is valued at more than £25.7m a day, according to the latest Strategic Threat Assessment released by the National Crime Agency. Seizures of the drug in the UK rose by 161% between early 2020 and early 2021.
The story began when a man who declined to give his name was strolling down Tan Way Beach near Aberystwyth for an early morning walk. During the walk, the young man saw many black bags tied with rope and empty containers washed ashore.
He told The Mail on Sunday: “I went out for a walk early in the morning when I saw something on the beach. I walked up to it and almost immediately realized what it was.” The quantity, found by a young man on a beach in West Wales on Saturday morning, weighed 1kg and was named after fashion brand Dior.
British police said a “significant amount” of what is believed to be cocaine was found and washed ashore on Tan Way Pulch in Aberystwyth. David Bowes Police said no arrests were made and thanked those who alerted police after the drugs were found. A police spokesman said: “We are investigating the discovery of a significant amount of what is believed to be cocaine that was found on the coast this weekend.” She added: “Investigations are currently underway to determine how such an unusually large amount of a controlled drug ended up on a Wales beach following recent storms.”
