Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is ready to send a delegation to Minsk for discussion with Ukraine, according to a press release made by the Kremlin on Friday.

the announcement came after the Russian leader held a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Putin told Xi that Russia military transaction in Ukraine was needed to protect people against “genocide,” the Kremlin said, an accusation the West calls baseless propaganda.

The Kremlin said Xi respects Russia’s actions and is ready for close coordination and mutual support at the United Nations, where both are permanent members with veto power of the Security Council.

“In response to the proposal of (President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy), Vladimir Putin is ready to send a Russian delegation to Minsk at the level of representatives of the Ministry of defence, the ministry of Foreign Affairs and Presidential Administration for talks with the Ukrainian delegation,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the day after Moscow launched a military intervention in Ukraine.

Tensions began to rise late last year when Ukraine, the United States and their allies accused Russia of accumulate tens of thousands of troops on the border with Ukraine.

They claimed that Russia was preparing to invade son western neighbour, assertions systematically rejected by Moscow.

Defy threats of sanctions by the West, Moscow earlier this week officially recognized Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states, followed by the start of a military transaction in Ukraine on Thusday.

Putin said the operation aims to protect people “subjected to genocide” by Kyiv and to “demilitarize and denazify” Ukraine while calling on the Ukrainian army to pose down his arms.

“Take power in your hands, it will be easier for us come to an agreement.”

Moscow’s offer of peace negotiations is not a real effort, the United States says

However, the US State Department criticized Russia’s offer of peace negotiations with Ukraine, claiming that this is not a real effort to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

“Diplomacy by the Barrel of guncoercive diplomacy, is not something we are going to participate in in”said spokesman Ned Price, adding that it would not help peace efforts. in an authentic and durable way.

“Moscow is now an outcast on the world stadium, President Putin is an outcast,” Price said, adding that the United States was ready to commit. in serious and honest efforts to resolve the dispute.

Diplomacy cannot succeed in a context where “it’s raining down bombs, mortar shells” and “your tanks are advancing towards a capital of 2.9 millions people,” he said.
