Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Saturday urged Western countries impose “crushing sanctions” on Russia as it is moves forward invade Ukraine, slamming the nations like Germany for their “inflexible selfishness”.

“There is no time today for genre of the inflexible selfishness that we see in some western countries including here in Germany unfortunately,” Morawiecki said. in Berlin ahead of an encounter with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“That’s why I came here… to shake the conscience of Germany. For them to finally decide on sanctions that are in fact crushing,” he told Polish reporters.

Morawiecki, who has been set meet with school together with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, notably called for the closure of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline and said that Russia must be cut off off from the SWIFT bank system.

“All penalties should to be on table now,” Morawiecki said.

Germany has been reluctant to exclude Russia from SWIFT over fears that Moscow will cut off key gas supplies.

And while Berlin said it would stop certification of a new pipeline bringing gas from Russia, known as Nord Stream 2, the existing direct link remains in exploitation and payments continue to flow.

Morawiecki also took issue with germany decision send helmets rather than weapons to Ukraine.

“Five thousand helmets? Must be some kind of of joke. There must be real help… weapons,” he said, stressing that Ukraine is not just combat for himself.

“They are also combat for us. For our freedom, our sovereignty. So that we are not next in line,” he said.

“Russia wants destroy our world like us know this. We must act now. We have no time to waste.”
