Twitter is restricted for some users in Russia, the social media the company said in a tweet on Saturday.
Friday, one day after theinvasion of Ukraine by Russia, Moscow said it was partially limiting access to Meta Platforms Inc’s Facebook, accusing him of “censor” Russian media.
Twitter said it was working to maintain son safe and accessible service. He didn’t immediately answer a question on if Russia had communicated with the undertaking of any action.
Internet blocking observatory NetBlocks reported that Twitter had been restricted on leading networks. A Reuters reporter in Moscow on Saturday said the site was slow and had trouble sending tweets.
Russia tries to exercise stricter control over internet and big tech companies for years, in effort which critics say they threaten the freedom of individuals and businesses, and are part of of a broader repression against franc opponents of the Kremlin.
Last yearMoscow slowed down down the speed of Twitter in a punitive move because he said the site is not illegally deleting content.
