Iraq’s new President Abdul Latif Rashid assumed office today, Monday, during an inauguration ceremony at the Republican Palace in the capital Baghdad.
In his speech, Rashid said that “the previous stage was difficult for everyone”, stressing that he is “close to announcing his program to manage the next stage.” He added: “I am looking forward to establishing strong relationships with neighboring countries and the international community,” hoping that “the rapid formation of a new government will meet the demands of the citizens.” He stressed that he is committed to protecting the constitution and sovereignty of Iraq and solving internal problems.
Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid was born on August 10, 1944 in Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq, he is married and has three children: Asuz (40 years old), Sarah (35 years old) and Zakrosa (34 years old).
Rashid speaks 3 languages: Arabic, Kurdish and English. The political history of Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid began in the sixties of the last century, when he joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party and became its member, then the leader of the Kurdish Student Association in Europe, participated in meetings and gatherings to form the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which arose from the Democratic Party, and joined by Abdel Latif after its formation. He was chosen as the PUK delegate in the UK and as his representative in a number of European countries. He has played a prominent role in this party since its founding in 1975 under the leadership of the late Jalal Talabani.
