Sudan. Blue Nile state of emergency declared amid violent incidents

The Governor of the Blue Nile Region, Lieutenant General Ahmed El Omda Badi, declared a state of emergency across the region today amid violent incidents in the region that have resulted in a large number of deaths.

The Governor called, according to a widespread statement, the security services in the region to intervene immediately and use all available means to stop the fighting and loss of life.

Bloody clashes between the Hausa and Funj tribes took place yesterday and the day before yesterday in the Wad el-Mahi area in the Blue Nile state, as a result of which more than 200 boats were killed and a large number of people were injured.

According to a medical spokesman, the death toll in Wad el-Mahi has reached 150 people, most of whom were women, children and the elderly, who were burned and injured 86. Events have spread to the city of Roseires near the border with Ethiopia, where the death toll has reached 13 human. According to United Nations sources, the city of Lagwa in West Kordofan has also not escaped the inter-tribal conflict between the Misseriya and Nuba tribes over land ownership in the city, which has left 12 people dead, 20 injured and about 4,000.

There is hope that the introduction of a state of emergency in the state will allow control and introduce security measures, stop bloodshed in the region.
