Donald Trump looks set to run for president in 2024, he hinted on Friday, four days before the midterm elections, betting on a major defeat for the Democrats, who have thrown all their might into the battle to keep their seats under threat, including including in strongholds such as New York. York.

For his part, Democratic President Joe Biden defended his economic gains on Friday in an effort to avoid a possible defeat for the Democrats.

“It is very, very, very likely that I am running. Get ready,” Trump told a crowd of supporters in Iowa. He added: “We will restore the Congress, we will restore the Senate,” stressing that “in 2024, we will restore our beautiful White House.”

The billionaire, who has never admitted defeat in the 2020 election and has hinted for months at the idea of running for a new term, continues to tighten control over the Republican Party.

He supported a large number of candidates in the “by-elections” and doubled the rallies for this purpose. In that sense, he can be trusted if they win and manage to strip Democratic President Joe Biden of his majority in Congress.

Opinion polls predict a major victory for the Republicans in the House of Representatives, which will be completely renewed, and go to a narrow majority in the Senate, where there is a struggle for a third of the seats.

And if those predictions come true, Trump appears determined to use the momentum to formalize his appointment as quickly as possible, thereby cutting off potential contenders like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

For his part, Biden said on Friday during a tour of San Diego, Calif., “Over the past 20 months, we’ve made a lot of progress in strengthening the economy (…) and in my opinion, we just have to keep doing that.”

The US is currently experiencing the worst inflation in 40 years, and high prices have thwarted the plans of Democrats trying to maintain their majority. Biden vowed to “lower” inflation, highlighting in particular the huge investments his administration has made in semiconductors and climate in particular.

Biden insisted that the US retains “strengths”: for example, the labor market created 261,000 jobs in October despite rising interest rates, raising fears of a recession.

After the California tour, Biden traveled to Chicago on Friday night.
