A White House spokesman told Al Ain Al Akhbar about Biden’s program during his visit to the Climate Summit, where the US President is due to have a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and he will communicate with Egyptian officials to discuss developments in the Middle East and underline the US commitment to stability and diplomacy aimed at ending conflicts in the region and reducing tensions.
The US official said that the meeting between the US and Egyptian presidents will discuss a number of issues, including the impact of the climate crisis on the region, the global impact of the Russian operation in Ukraine, the easing of regional tensions, security and economic issues. partnership between the United States and Egypt and human rights.
President Biden is scheduled to arrive at 3:20 pm Cairo time at Sharm El Sheikh International Airport for a bilateral meeting with President El Sisi at 3:55 pm at the Tonino Lamborghini International Conference Center.
The President of the United States will address the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) at 5:15 pm, departing Sharm El Sheikh Airport at 6:20 pm for Cambodia.
A US administration official said Biden’s speech will provide an opportunity to present Washington’s efforts to address the climate crisis at home and abroad, as well as show how the United States is mobilizing historic and unprecedented public and private funds to partner with developing countries. in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate impacts.
The official noted that President Biden will also speak on the need for the 196 members of the Paris Agreement to continue their efforts, accelerating the ambitious work to reduce emissions in order to maintain the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees.
He explained that last year, President Biden set an ambitious goal to cut emissions by at least 50% by 2030, making the US the lead country in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, indicating that Washington is on the right track.
After Sharm el-Sheikh, the US President will travel to Cambodia from November 12 to 13 to attend the annual U.S.-Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit and then attend the East Asia Summit on November 13, after which he will travel to Bali, Indonesia , to participate in the G20 summit.
