The Jeddah Corniche Circuit hosts two WTCR events.

From November 26th to 27th, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit will host two WTCR World Cup Touring Car Series events (17th and 18th) organized by the International Automobile Federation and Discovery Sports in cooperation with the Saudi Federation as part of a series of international sporting events hosted by the Kingdom. motorsport, which is represented by Saudi Motorsports Company.

This hosting, which represents the first appearance of the World Touring Car Series (WTCR) in the Kingdom, is being held as part of an effort to strengthen its international position as the home of global motorsports and automobiles in the Middle East, and will be added to the international championships held in the Kingdom. including Saudi Arabian Cup Formula 1, Formula E and Dakar Rally.

The two rounds in Jeddah will draw the attention of motorsport fans and the international media as the series will take place on the new Jeddah Corniche Circuit for the first time as Saudi Motorsports has laid a shortened track on the ornamental Jeddah Corniche. dedicated to the Formula 1 race, 3.45 km long, together with a new cut At the start of turn four to increase the excitement of the race on the world’s fastest street circuit. The WTCR World Touring Car Series will be the first race at this new circuit, another night race on the Red Sea coast.

HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Motor Sports Federation and Saudi Motorsports, expressed his pride that the Kingdom is hosting one of the World Touring Car Championships, emphasizing that hosting this global event confirms the leadership of the Kingdom and its ability to organize the most important global events, as well as international activities in all areas and events such as the Dakar Rally, Formula E and Extreme E, in addition to organizing two Formula World Championship 1 races. In addition, the race will contribute to establishing the Kingdom’s well-deserved position on the world sports map as the home of motorsport, with its facilities and opportunities that have made it a destination for motorsport enthusiasts. This sport, indicating that the event will help to advance motorsport development efforts in the Kingdom and in the region in in general.

For his part, World Touring Car Cup Director at Discovery Jean-Baptiste Lei Sports said: “Hosting the championship at the Jeddah Corniche circuit will not be an ordinary event, especially given the excellent conditions available at the track, which will allow this year’s decisive race to take place at night. which will allow riders to put on an amazing show in a design adapted to our series, as well as excite fans on the track, TV viewers and online viewers around the world. .

Notably, the World Touring Car Cup Series (WTCR), and before the sound of its engines could be heard on the Jeddah Corniche circuit, passed eight stations in the 2022 season as it started from France on May 7 and 8 before moving to Germany on May 26 and May 28, then to Hungary on May 28. June 11 and 12, then to Spain on June 25 and 26, to Portugal on July 2 and 3, then to Italy on July 23 and 24, then to Alsace on August 6 and 7, and the Bahrain International Circuit is scheduled for the championship rounds on November 10 and 12.
