Two explosions hit two bus stops at the entrance to Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, injuring at least 18 people, according to The Jerusalem Post.
The Israeli police said in a statement that the two explosions took place near two bus stops in Jerusalem, 30 minutes apart, and that they are suspected of being attacked by Palestinians.
An al-Hurra correspondent in Jerusalem said: “11 people were injured in an explosion at a bus stop at the western entrance to Jerusalem, two of them are in critical condition, and two more are in serious condition.”
And the correspondent continued: “Explosives experts are combing the area in search of new explosive devices.”
He pointed out that “the police blocked the main road leading to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.”
Television footage shows scattered debris at the site of the explosion, which was cordoned off by emergency services.
Israel Army Radio reported that the first explosion was caused by a motorcycle bomb that had been planted near the bus station, while the second explosive device was placed in a bag in one of the buses.
The ambulance service said there were no immediate reports of deaths, but at least two victims were seriously injured.
According to the Times of Israel”, the first explosion occurred near the main entrance to Jerusalem in the Givat Shaul district, shortly after 7 am, during rush hour at the station.
The second explosion occurred shortly after 7:30 am at the Ramot Junction, one of the entrances to Jerusalem.
According to doctors, at least two people received shrapnel wounds as a result of the second explosion.
And Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz held a security consultation session with General Security Chief Ronen Bar, Deputy Chief of Staff and Government Coordinator for the Palestinian Territories, to examine the situation and how to respond to the two bombings and tighten security in the West Bank , according to an Al-Hurra correspondent in Jerusalem.
The head of Israel’s military intelligence department, Aharon Khalifa, indicated that the security situation in the Palestinian territories is unstable and that the security services are watching with concern what is happening there.
