US officials say several people were shot dead in Chesapeake City, Va., when someone shot at customers at a Walmart store.
The police killed the assailant, and the United States regularly witnesses mass killings and gun violence, but Congress is reluctant to tighten gun laws.
“We found several casualties and several injured,” Leo Kosinski, a Chesapeake police officer, told reporters, noting that response teams stormed the supermarket “immediately” upon arrival at the scene after receiving an emergency call.
There were no official death tolls, but a police officer said the number did not exceed ten, according to CBS-affiliated Wosa. Footage released by the media showed a large number of police officers at the scene of the shooting, and Kosinsky said: “Investigators are conducting thorough searches of the store and guarding its perimeter.”
