It’s winter in Ukraine, and the “white general” will slow down the fighting, many experts say.

The Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which has entered its tenth month, the intensity of its field battles has recently decreased, it snows and rains, and frosts at dawn and at night.

it’s a swamp

As for Ukraine, the soldiers are still in the trenches. From inside one of those dirty old trenches, one of the soldiers said, “What can I say? We’re in a good position for some reason, but it’s harder now because of the rain and frost.”

He also added, pointing to one of the trenches that was filled with water: “It’s a swamp… although it’s a bit dry today,” Reuters reported.

However, he confirmed that the water level had previously been high due to rain. He explained that the soldiers used buckets to collect the water.

The fighting has slowed down

Significantly, US officials had previously assumed that the war would stop temporarily, or that the military gains on both sides would slow down with the onset of winter.

In addition, General Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently proposed a slowdown in hostilities during the winter, expressing his belief that this slowdown could be a window for a settlement.

On the other hand, the Institute for the Study of War expected that Russian President Vladimir Putin would try to continue with conventional military operations in order to keep the lands he currently controls and possibly acquire new lands.

He also saw that the Kremlin could bet on a reduction in Western support for Kyiv due to the winter pressure on the people of Ukraine’s allies, against the backdrop of a fuel and gas crisis and debilitating economic inflation.
