US Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland confirmed that there is no need to form a new transitional government in Libya in light of the existence of a national unity government led by Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, calling for elections to be held soon. as much as possible.
Norland told Jeune Afrique, in response to a question about current tensions between Libya’s Supreme Council of State and Dabaiba, that the United States considers Dabaiba to be the head of the transitional government “and we don’t need another team of transitional ministers.” “
Norland added: “We have explicitly stressed to all Libyan parties that the country must hold elections as soon as possible.”
This comes in light of tensions between the Dbeiba government and the Supreme Council of State, as the latter announced last month that armed groups linked to the Government of National Unity were obstructing the council’s meetings.
This tension arose as a result of the Council’s communication with the Presidium of the Libyan Parliament in the east of the country regarding the search for a solution to existing disputes in the country. Indeed, the Supreme State Council had previously reached an agreement with the Presidium of Libya. The parliament is reconfiguring sovereign institutions and forming a unified government, Libyan parliament spokesman Abdullah Belhak said in a statement.
Soon, the Supreme Council decided to suspend communication with the presidium of the parliament against the backdrop of the parliament’s approval of the law on the establishment of a constitutional court in Benghazi.
