According to the official IRNA news agency yesterday, unidentified individuals killed an Iranian security officer during Saturday’s protests, and security forces were deployed to secure the city of Isfahan after a number of protesters left. These protests saw some clashes between protesters and security forces, with the agency saying the security officer killed on Saturday belonged to mobilization forces linked to the Revolutionary Guards. In some cases, clashes occurred with a number of rioters.
Protest movements have been taking place in Iran since September 16 following the death of Amini (22) after she was arrested by the vice police in Tehran for not following the country’s strict dress code.
Hundreds have been killed, including dozens of members of the security forces, during protests that have raised slogans against the authorities, and thousands have been arrested in the margins of movements that Iranian officials consider a significant part of the “unrest” behind the “enemies” Islamic Republic.
More than 200 people, including dozens of law enforcement officers, were killed on the sidelines of the protests, according to official Iranian figures, and 11 people were sentenced to death in connection with the protests, two of whom were executed. For their part, human rights organizations outside of Iran indicate that more than 470 protesters have been killed by security forces, and that about 100 people are being charged with crimes that could lead to the death penalty. Yesterday, a number of Tehran residents hung a large banner on a bridge in the Valiasr district in the center of the Iranian capital, urging citizens to join the protests in the country.
They also felt that silence was considered support for an unjust regime, as the banner read: “Citizen, get up” and “No to executions.”
This happened after a number of Iranian citizens chanted anti-regime slogans in Tehran and Mashhad on the night from Saturday to Sunday.
