A unique the film festival has started on the icy surface of The frozen lake of Turkey Çıldır, located in the eastern provinces of Ardahan and Kars, accompanied by panoramic views on 3rd of March. In the framework of of the Snow Screen Film Festival, which run until March 7, various movies are played on a white screen built entirely of snow on Lake.
Organized by the association of Directors, the Snow Screen Film Festival has been launched with a screening of the movie “İnat Hikayeleri” (“Tales of Intransigence”), which met featured the late actor Tuncel Kurtiz. As is the first editing of the festival, the screening selection has been specially prepared with movies which were filmed in Çıldır, Ardahan and Kars regions. The festival, which goes on like a gala every day is also enriched with the bill of traditional cultural activities. In the years to come, it will be organized as a event who accepts international participation and where the prizes are awarded.
As part of the festival, a screening of a movie takes place every evening alternately on two snow guards set up on Lake Çıldır and in the center of Ardahan. From movies “Kader” (“Destiny”) by Zeki Demirkubuz, “Deli Deli Olma” (“Girl on the Piano”) by Murat Saraçoğlu, “Kar Korsanları” (“Snow Pirates”) by Faruk Hacıhafızoğlu, “Kar Kırmızı” by ‘Atalay Taşdiken (“Red Snow”), “Orhan Pamuğa Söylemeyin Kars’ta Çektiğim Filmde Kar Romanı da Var” by Rıza Sönmez (“Don’t tell Orhan Pamuk that son novel Snow is in the film I made about Kars”), “Çınar” by Mustafa Karadeniz (“Planetree”) and “Kars Hikayeleri” (“Tales of Kars”) by the directors of Ankara Cinema Association. In the day sessions, screenings of documentaries and interviews are organized in closed rooms in Cıldır and Ardahan region.
The festival also aims to increase awareness of local culture and contribute to the promotion of regional cultural wealth. Therefore, he included side events in in addition to movie screenings that take place with the participation of the director and actor, like walking marathons on the frozen lake.
The festival, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Directorate General of Cinema and TRT – the national public Streamer of Turkey – is organized with logistical contributions of Ardahan Municipality, Çıldır Municipality and Serhat Development Agency (SERKA).
