Palestine and Turkmenistan abstained from voting on hosting the Kingdom of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, while 43 out of 45 countries voted in favor of the Saudi case.
The 33rd General Assembly of the Asian Football Confederation was held today, Wednesday, in the capital of Bahrain, Manama, and approved the choice of Saudi Arabia to host the 2027 Asian Cup.
Qatar pulled out of the list of hosts for the tournament last October after being tasked with hosting the 2023 tournament following the withdrawal of Uzbekistan and Iran to limit competition between Saudi Arabia and India, before the Indian Football Association’s organizing committee decided to withdraw its file.
Despite Saudi Arabia’s continued participation in the Continental Championship, it has not hosted a competition throughout its history and planned to officially bid to host the 2019 AFC Asian Cup but declined.
