Similar to the American Atlanta United Stadium, Riyadh’s King Fahd International Stadium is starting a comprehensive development process to become a state-of-the-art football stadium to prepare it for the Kingdom to host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. for the first time in the history of the tournament Stadiums have been closed since last Sunday After the end of the Saudi Super Cup, when Al-Ittihad won the title, the stadium hosted it from 26 to 29 January to start a comprehensive stadium development process that will last about a year.

The development process aims to increase the capacity to 80,000 spectators from the current 68,000, as well as to remove the track and prepare the stadium in accordance with the latest developments in modern football stadiums.

The King Fahd International Stadium was founded in 1982 and took four years to complete, covering an area of ​​500,000 square meters, with innovative tent-like structures for the time, which is why it is also called the “tent” stadium.

For the past thirty years, the King Fahd Stadium has witnessed the most important tournaments and matches hosted by the Kingdom and has hosted football legends, most notably Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
