Paris Saint-Germain fans have criticized the French Football Federation’s decision not to stop matches to allow Muslim players to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

And the French federation has banned French league referees and lower ranks from stopping matches involving Muslim players, and the federation has threatened its referees with harsh sanctions for failing to follow its instructions.

Paris Saint-Germain fans who were present at the Parc des Princes to watch their team’s match against Olympique Lyon on Sunday, as part of Matchday 29 of the local league, held up a slogan that read: “Dates and a glass of water … the nightmare of the French Football Association.”

The French Federation warned against the use of any speech for political, ideological or religious purposes during its competitions and concluded that the laws of the International Federation of Football Associations “FIFA” stipulate that “the football field is not a place for political or religious expression, but rather it is neutral places and in them priority is given to sports.

This contrasts with the Premier League allowing matches to be stopped to allow players to break their fast during the month of Ramadan.

Muslim players fasting during the month of Ramadan are scattered throughout the various European stadiums, led by the French, who are swarming with many players from Arab and African countries, in addition to French of other origins.
