Your Apps That Are Used The Least Will Now Be Automatically Archived by Google Play

Due to the fact that several phone manufacturers have eliminated microSD card ports from their products, many of us are now faced with the challenge of coping with limited storage space. Certain phones, even though many of them are supplied with the option to pay extra for additional storage space, require more luxury and can leave you with very little space to work with. Finding all the space you require can be difficult if you frequently download media or play games that require a lot of storage space. The concept of app archiving was first presented by Google in 2018 to assist users in better managing their valuable storage space. We are making adjustments to the application so that it can run automatically.

The new auto-archive feature in Android can reduce the size of an app by approximately 60 percent without ever removing it from the phone. It preserves your data and settings (so people with dozens of hours racked up on their favorite games can save space without saying goodbye to their progress). The program icon will continue appearing on the launcher even after it has been removed. However, for applications you do not use frequently, Google will erase most of the app’s code and resources to save storage space. These will be re-downloaded from the Play Store whenever they are required.

Archived applications will show a small cloud icon to indicate that data needs to be re-downloaded.

Nevertheless, the auto-archive capability will only be accessible to a few applications simultaneously. This initiative is open to participation from just those mobile applications (apps) whose creators employ the App Bundle format. This format ensures that only the required materials are downloaded to your phone when you install an application.

Those interested in participating in the auto-archive initiative can do so by attempting to download a new application even when their mobile device has reached its storage capacity limit. After users have begun the installation process, they will be prompted by a pop-up window to decide whether or not they want to allow auto-archive. If the user gives their permission, all unused applications from the past will immediately start being archived to make room on the device for the newly installed program.
