Operational Support Forces Announce 24-Hour Temporary Ceasefire and Truce

Today, Tuesday, the Sudan Rapid Support Forces announced their agreement to a temporary ceasefire and 24-hour truce following the intervention of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken: “Based on direct contact with Anthony Blinken, US Secretary of State, and the efforts of fraternal and friendly countries, established similar contacts, during which they called for a temporary cease-fire in order to open safe routes for the passage of civilians and the evacuation of the wounded, we announce our approval of the proposed truce for four months. Twenty hours.”

The statement said: “The Rapid Support Forces reaffirm their commitment to the directives issued in connection with this, and we point out the non-compliance of the other side with the terms of the truce, while its aircraft are still attacking populated areas, which is a flagrant violation of the fundamentals. and principles of international and humanitarian law, and we are awaiting a response from the US Secretary of State to remedy the violations of the other side.”

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed the need to protect civilians, aid workers and international organizations, calling on the leaders of the two warring factions for a 24-hour ceasefire.

Blinken held telephone conversations with both the commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah Al-Buran, and with the commander of the Rapid Support, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo.
