Statement released by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, which reads: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, in their capacity as mediators, note a marked improvement in the short-term ceasefire and the May 25 Sudan Humanitarian Agreement. In addition to observing the use of military aircraft and sporadic shelling in Khartoum, the situation in Khartoum has improved since May 24, when the Ceasefire Monitoring Mechanism found serious violations of the agreement, including reports of the use of artillery, military aircraft and drones, as well as credible reports of air strikes. And about the continuation of the fighting in the center of the industrial zone of Khartoum, and about the clashes in Zalingei in the state of Central Darfur.
The mediators contacted the parties following serious violations on May 24, stressing that renewed fighting has endangered civilians, hindered the delivery of humanitarian assistance and prevented the restoration of essential services, undermining key ceasefire objectives. On 25 May, the coordinators of the agreement warned both sides of further violations and urged them to improve their implementation of the ceasefire agreement, which both sides had already implemented. Today, humanitarian organizations have delivered urgently needed medical supplies to several locations in Sudan. In addition, repair crews were able to carry out repairs to begin re-establishing communications in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan.
The mediators call on the parties to build on the positive progress made today and honor their commitments until the end of the short-term ceasefire agreement.
Both parties must put the needs of the Sudanese people first and abide by the terms they agreed to a few days ago.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America call on the parties to respect their obligations under the Ceasefire Agreement and take the necessary steps to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance and the restoration of basic services.
