New Government Formation and Portfolio Changes

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced during a press conference in the Turkish capital Ankara the formation of a new Turkish government, during which the replacement of sovereign portfolios led by defense and foreign portfolios took place.

And in the new formation announced by Erdogan, as promised earlier the day after the constitutional oath was taken before the country’s parliament, the portfolio of the Turkish Foreign Ministry went to the head of Turkish intelligence Hakan Fidan instead of Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The defense portfolio was taken over by Yasar Güler in place of Hulusi Akar, who was Güler until today as Turkish Chief of Staff.

Cevdet Yılmaz also took over as Vice President of the Republic, the portfolio of the Ministry of Justice went to Yılmaz Tunç, the energy portfolio went to Alp Arslan Bayraktar, the finance portfolio went to Mehmet Simsek, and the domestic portfolio went to Ali Yirli Kaya.

New Government’s Priorities and Future Plans

It is noteworthy that the President of Turkey said in his speech today after taking the constitutional oath that his new presidential term will not witness the opening of the books and deeds of the past, “like a merchant if he goes bankrupt”, referring to the announcement of the formation of a new government today and that, that next Tuesday its first meeting will take place.

Erdogan also indicated in his speech to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (Parliament) and officially taking office that this new Turkish government “will work to embellish Turkey’s centenary” (preparation for the next 100 years).
