BioWare’s Focus on Dragon Age and Mass Effect

Electronic Arts (EA) is said to be outsourcing the development of Star Wars: The Old Republic from BioWare to Broadsword Online Games. This move will allow BioWare to focus on new chapters of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. According to IGN.com, Broadsword and EA have signed a letter of intent to take care of all operations related to the famous MMORPG. As part of the move, current developer Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot Broadsword Online will take over Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. This was confirmed by EA, who stated that they were evaluating how to give the game and team the best possible growth and development opportunities.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Still Successful After 12 Years

Despite being released almost 12 years ago, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still a successful game that continues to grow its dedicated and passionate community. The game was originally released as a subscription game, but after a drastic reduction in subscriptions, it was converted to a free-to-play game in its first year. Despite this, it generated nearly $1 billion in revenue in 2019.

Charles Boyd Leaves BioWare

Creative director of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Charles Boyd, left the company after 16 years. While the game never quite reached the heights of a World of Warcraft competitor, it has had a ton of expansions released over the past decade.

Remake Still in Development

Fans of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will be pleased to know that the remake is still in development at the Embracer Group. In conclusion, this move by EA to outsource the development of the game to Broadsword Online Games will allow BioWare to focus on new chapters of their popular franchises. This is a move that will ultimately benefit the games and their respective communities.
