Deputy Emir of Kuwait and Crown Prince Urges National Assembly to Complete Pending Legislation

On Tuesday, the Deputy Emir of Kuwait and Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah called on the new National Assembly to complete the pending legislation to meet the aspirations of the people. The Crown Prince emphasized the need to “cleanse the National Assembly of the filth that hinders its work” and urged Parliament to use constitutional means wisely.

Advancing on the Path of National Achievements

The Crown Prince of Kuwait stated that Kuwait is facing a new stage of work and reforms and advancing on the path of national achievements. He also noted that the country has gone through a period of lack of cooperation between the legislative and executive branches. He underlined that Kuwait will not allow the confusion of power and trust the desire of the National Assembly to achieve the aspirations of the people.

New Prime Minister Appointed

Earlier, Prince Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah issued a decree from the emir appointing Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah as prime minister. The Amiri’s order was based on the country’s constitution, which empowers the crown prince to exercise some of the constitutional powers of the country’s emir.

Resignation of the Government of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah

A few days ago, the Amir’s order was issued to accept the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah and put him in charge of running business before it is reappointed to form a new government. Kuwait’s constitution provides that after the announcement of the results of parliamentary elections, the government must resign in order for a new government to be appointed.

Results of the Legislative Elections

Notably, the Tuesday before last, Kuwait held legislative elections to elect members of the 2023 National Assembly of up to 50 deputies, which resulted in the election of 10 new faces distributed across five constituencies, with an infiltration of young faces, which was a surprise in some districts.
