In 2022, the Pixel War or Reddit pixel battle created a buzz in France. Thanks to the strong mobilization within the network, France emerged as the winner in the previous edition. Now, Pixel War is making a comeback on Reddit, but the question remains – will the name be kept?
To summarize, Reddit provides its members with a massive canvas where participants can place pixels at regular intervals. While playing alone may not be very exciting, when you are part of a community and collectively want to convey a message, display a flag, or share a meme, it becomes an intense battle against other communities.
In 2022, France’s victory in the pixel war was partially attributed to a group of popular streamers who encouraged their followers to join the cause. Within four days, the French flag, along with images associated with France, dominated the left side of the canvas.

Bad time for Reddit?
Note that Reddit is launching Pixel War this year amidst challenging times. The platform itself seems to have acknowledged this in an announcement posted yesterday. Many users are unhappy with the platform’s solution, which forces several third-party social network clients to shut down.
As I write this article, netizens are already taking advantage of the Pixel War to post protest messages against Reddit and its CEO. However, for this new version of Pixel War, Reddit is introducing new features. Moderators in subreddits will be able to pin instructions on the canvas to guide participants in the Pixel War. Additionally, there is a new live chat channel where communities can coordinate their efforts to win the battle for pixels.
