Strong Winds Cause Damage at Aden International Airport

Strong winds were observed at Aden International Airport at dawn on Monday, resulting in sporadic damage. Sources said the winds also caused injuries to passengers, including children, and one of the wings of the aircraft at the airport was damaged.

Damage to Airport’s Infrastructure

The sources added that the winds destroyed much of the airport’s glass facade and damaged parts of the airport’s rooftops. The winds shattered much of the airport’s glass façade and damaged parts of the airport’s insulating roof, much of which was blown away along the airport’s perimeter. Parts of the roof were torn off, causing minor damage to the vehicles and injuring some occupants, including at least 4 children. Two flights were also postponed, which were supposed to fly from the capital Aden to the airports of Jeddah and Cairo.

Impact on Surrounding Areas

Several power poles and lighting fixtures fell on the roads, and roofs were torn off a number of wooden houses, hangars, and camps.
