Serbia won’t join NATO military covenant and will instead protect son ground and son airspace by itself, said the country’s president on Monday, campaign for re-election in South city of Vranje.
“We will protect our children and the futurewe have enough soldiers. Our interest is in peace and compromise, but time of pogroms and persecution are over”, said Aleksandar Vucic during a rally of son Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
Saying he “feared” what others might bring to Serbia, he added that he believes that people will choose correctly in the general elections set for April 3.
Russia has opposed NATO enlargement and cited it as a reason for the war he started last month in Ukraine, however Kyiv wasn’t close joining the military Alliance.
Moscow is particularly opposed to NATO membership for countries with which he shares historical links of Slavic ethnicity and Eastern Orthodox Christianity, like Serbia.
