Elon Musk Announces Audio and Video Calls on X, and Plans to Compete with LinkedIn
Improved Messaging and Job Search Functionality
Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has recently announced some exciting developments for his social media platform, X. Musk revealed that audio and video calls will soon be available on X, making it a direct competitor to popular messaging apps like WhatsApp. Additionally, X is set to challenge LinkedIn with its new job search feature.
Audio and Video Calls on X
For years, X has offered private messaging capabilities, but it has been limited to text messages. Musk’s recent announcement promises to change that. Users will soon be able to make audio and video calls on the platform. Musk emphasized that this feature will be available on Android, iOS, PC, and Mac, and importantly, it won’t require a phone number.
In a tweet, Musk stated, “Video and audio calls incoming on X: – Works on iOS, Android, Mac and PC – No phone number required – X is an efficient global address book.” This indicates Musk’s vision for X to become a comprehensive communication platform.
X Hiring: A LinkedIn Competitor
In addition to audio and video calls, Musk also revealed his plan to turn X into a competitor for LinkedIn’s job search functionality. Expressing his dissatisfaction with LinkedIn, Musk tweeted, “People sometimes send me links on LinkedIn, but the level of dissatisfaction is so high that I just can’t bring myself to use them, so please email your resume or bio. We will make sure LinkedIn Competitor X is awesome.”
The new LinkedIn competitor on X has been named X Hiring. Currently in beta testing, it is only available for verified organizations. X Hiring allows organizations to create a recruiting section on their profiles to post job openings. It remains unclear if there are any plans to provide features for job seekers on X.
Integration of a Payment System
As part of Musk’s broader vision for X, the platform is also developing a payment system that will be integrated into the social network. This move aligns with Musk’s goal of turning X into a super app similar to WeChat in China, which offers a wide range of services beyond just messaging.
While the exact release dates for these new features are unknown, it is clear that Musk and his team are continuously working to enhance X’s capabilities.
