The revival serves as a direct sequel to the original show’s eighth season, effectively retconning the events of the experimental 2010 ninth season. Rather than the medical school setting of the previous spin-off attempt, the new series returns the action to Sacred Heart Hospital.
The story picks up years after the original “My Finale” episode, with Zach Braff’s J.D. now serving as the Chief of Medicine. The original trio of J.D., Elliot (Sarah Chalke), and Turk (Donald Faison) act as mentors to a new class of interns, maintaining the mentorship dynamic that defined the earlier years of the show.
Returning Cast and Guest Stars
Several primary cast members from the original run are confirmed to return, including Zach Braff as J.D., Sarah Chalke as Elliot, and Donald Faison as Turk.
However, the roster will be missing one of its most recognizable figures. Ken Jenkins, who portrayed Dr. Bob Kelso throughout the original series and the first season of the revival, is not expected to appear in the new episodes.
