Netflix has officially scheduled the global premiere of its cross-border crime thriller The Blue Road for November 20, 2026. The series features a high-profile pairing of South Korean actor Son Suk Ku and Japanese actor Eita Nagayama, who portray detectives drawn into a gruesome international investigation.
The 8-episode series is directed by Han Jun-hee, the creator known for his work on the acclaimed Netflix military drama D.P. The plot follows a pursuit across Seoul and Tokyo to capture a serial killer who leaves disfigured victims and cryptic, blood-inked messages. In a specific “mirror-image” hook, the murderer leaves Korean-language messages at crime scenes in Japan and Japanese-language messages at scenes in South Korea.

The Blue Road is an adaptation of a collaborative 2002 manhwa by Keishi Edogawa and Kwon Kaya. The streaming platform has solidified the full title alongside the release of the official teaser poster and trailer as of early October.
Early Reception and Supporting Cast
Ahead of its worldwide streaming debut, the first three episodes were selected to screen in the “On Screen” section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival. This festival exposure offers a first look at the series’ gritty atmosphere and the chemistry between the two lead detectives, who must navigate linguistic and jurisdictional barriers to stop the killings.
The production also features a notable supporting cast. Kim Shin-rok stars as a Zainichi Korean businesswoman, a role expected to bridge the cultural gap between the two primary settings. They are joined by Choi Sung-eun and veteran actor Jung Jae-young. By utilizing talent and locations from both South Korea and Japan, the series positions itself as a landmark collaboration in the Asian streaming landscape for 2026.
