With the failure of Diem one might think that Meta would permanently stop its ambitions for a universal currency that all of its users could use. However, according to a Financial Times report published by The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg’s firm would not have given up on the idea. In preparation, a non-blockchain currency project, internally dubbed “Zuck Bucks,” is even in preparation. The Financial Times describes the initiative as “tokens in an application that will be centrally controlled by the company, similar to payment devices used in video games, such as Robux in the popular children’s game Roblox.

Meta is not done with her foray into payments and financial services

Robux is a good example car Publisher Roblox has managed to create a very lucrative ecosystem around these tokens. Thus, Facebook might be tempted to follow this model rather than innovate with a new cryptocurrency under the company’s control, causing too many protests. However, the company will not completely rule out new features related to blockchains. Among other things, Meta would like to allow the exchange of NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. According to the Financial Times, Meta should soon test groups based on the exchange and the creation of NFTs. The meta also wants to develop a token, a “social” or “reputational” foundation to encourage positive contributions to social networking groups. In addition, Meta can also go into small business lending. Of course, the Meta refuses to confirm these rumors at this point. However, Lauren Dixon, spokeswoman for Meta, told our colleagues at The Verge: “We are constantly looking at new innovative products for people, businesses and creators. As a company, we put all of our energy into building the metaverse, including thinking about what payments and financial services might look like.” See also: This startup wants us to feel pain in the metaverse. I hope the name final new currency will not be a strong reference to the creator of Facebook, otherwise, it will cause some discomfort for some users. Fortunately, the name “Zuk Buk” at this stage is only an invention of the company’s employees, perhaps with a touch of irony.
