Shanghai’s local government said on Monday that 51 people infected with the COVID-19 disease died in the city on April 24, up from 39 the day before.
Shanghai, the financial and commercial center of China, has 16,983 new local cases of asymptomatic coronavirus infection, up from 19,657 a day earlier.
Official data showed the total number of new cases with symptoms reached 2,472, up from 1,401 days earlier.
Shanghai is currently battling China’s largest-ever COVID-19 outbreak.
