British police have reopened all roads around Waterloo railway station in central London after issuing an evacuation order following the discovery of a suspicious package.

In the statement made by the police, it was said, “The issue has been evaluated and no suspects have been found, the roads that have been closed to traffic will be removed soon.”

Police had previously evacuated Waterloo station and closed Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge in central London after a “suspicious” package was discovered on the South Bank.

York Road, which runs near Waterloo station, was also cordoned off, while a nearby apartment building was evacuated.

Police first said on Twitter: “A number of bridges in central London have been closed as a precaution as officers assess an untracked element near the South Bank.”

South Eastern Rail said a safety alert at Waterloo East railway station had disrupted rail service between London Bridge and Charing Cross.
