The Oscars have added a new “fan favorite” prize who will be voted by Twitter users for its 94th edition will be held next month, the organizers announced Monday.

the announcement comes after several blockbusters that appeal to the publicincluding “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “No Time To Die” failed at earn Oscar nominations in major categories, including best picture.

Their omission raised fears that many movie fans will be skip the show. But any movie released in 2021 can be voted for in the new Category using the Twitter hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite or via that of the Academy websiteincreasing the chances of a blockbuster in the spotlight on the night.

Television ratings for the Oscars have dramatically declined in these last years. Last year’s edition, which honored mainly the little ones, art and test movies such as best picture winner “Nomadland”, was watched by just over 10 millions of viewers – a 56% decline from 2020, which was already a record moo.

As Oscar voters drift further and further away from more rate grand publicthe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences played with various reforms to increase the popularity of the ceremony.

In 2018, organizers proposed a ‘popular film’ Oscar to honor the blockbuster movies like the Star Wars movies or the movies of super-Marvel heroes that rake in millions to box office.

But he quickly put aside those plans after critics ridiculed the move and the new “fan favorite” award will not be a formal Oscar category.

Meryl Johnson, Vice President of the Academy of digital marketing, said the move would like “help build an engaged and excited digital public leading up for that yearthe ceremony” and allow fans to hire with the show in real-time, find a community and be part of of the experience in in a way that they have never been able to do before.”

Twitter’s Sarah Rosen said the collaboration was “an exciting experience way engage more movie fans and celebrate their love and passion for movies released this year.”

Hosts revealed?

Movie fans can vote up at 20 times per day until March 3, and three randomly selected winners will be invited to present an Oscar to next yearthe ceremony.

A separate poll will ask voters to choose their favorite “movie moment of joy.” The five most popular choices – presented as scenes where “the public could not help but burst into cheers in cinemas” – will be screened during the Oscars.

Meanwhile, reports emerged on Monday in the hollywood trade press about possible identities of this year’s hosts of the Oscars.

Variety and Deadline both reported that actors Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes share reception functions.

The Academy does not have comment on Reports.

Broadcaster ABC last month confirmed that the Oscars will have a host for the first times since 2018, when Jimmy Kimmel last took The scene for Tinseltown’s Biggest prize-giving event.

The following year’s hostless format has garnered accolades and even been emulated by other awards shows like the Emmys, but subsequent Oscar ceremonies have been criticized for lack of concentration and humor.

Next month’s Oscars will return to the ceremony traditional Dolby movie theater in Hollywood, after the pandemic-affected 2021 Oscars were held at a Los Angeles train station.

They are being held later than usual, apparently for avoid to hit with February Winter Olympics and Sunday’s Super Bowl in Los Angeles.
