An Algerian court sentenced three policemen, including an officer, to 12 years in prison, as well as two other security officials in the case of the death of an Algerian youth under mysterious circumstances in a security center in Oran in the northwest of the country.
The rulings of the Criminal Court of First Instance in Oran come amid the case of the death of a young man “B.K.” who “committed suicide” at a security center in the city in November 2020.
Judicial investigations launched by the competent authorities revealed the involvement of 5 security personnel in the incident with death, as a result of which the results of the forensic examination showed that “the result of suicide using a thread for the victim’s sports shoes at the headquarters of the security service,” according to the newspaper “Al – Nahar.
Five police officers, including a woman, were brought to trial on charges of arbitrary detention outside the legal framework in places designated for detention, as well as negligence resulting in death, evading civil and criminal liability, eliminating the consequences of a crime by changing the composition crimes. the condition of places and the removal of objects from their place in order to obstruct the administration of justice.
The investigation revealed that police officers working at the security headquarters destroyed the string that the victim used to commit suicide by throwing it into the toilet, and also changed the location of the victim and tried to erase the facts, and also forged official documents.
