On Saturday, the Yemeni Human Rights Network reported that Houthi militias set fire to shops and tents of African migrants in the Rako border region in Saada province, the main militia stronghold in the far north of the country.

The Yemeni Rights and Freedoms Network condemned the Houthi crime, which it said resulted in the death of “17 people and the injury of others, the final result is not yet known.”

In her statement, she also indicated that the Houthi militia continues its crimes against defenseless civilians and is working to eliminate those who refuse to be drawn into its terrorist plans and fight in its ranks or work in drug smuggling and cross-border smuggling from Yemenis and Africans. who use Yemen as a transit zone to a number of countries in search of income.

The statement sees the crime as “a new addition to the militias’ bloody record, especially after the burning of more than 60 Africans in the passport prison in the capital Sana’a in 2020,” pointing out that the Houthis’ continued crimes against defenseless Yemeni civilians.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms called on all international organizations and the United Nations to act quickly to rescue African migrants and civilians, activate international laws and procedures to protect the rights of refugees, and impose sanctions on those involved in crimes against defenseless civilians.

It is noteworthy that the Houthis already had experience in persecuting migrants: in March last 2021, the International Organization for Migration condemned the death of more than 150 African refugees and guards due to a fire that broke out in a detention center in the Yemeni capital, which is ruled by Houthi rebels.

This fire occurred after the militias kidnapped 460 refugees in the aforementioned prison, the fire fell and burned dozens of bodies that the Houthis buried at night, refusing to provide any information about them.
