The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said Wednesday that the death toll in Turkey from the devastating earthquake that hit the country last month has risen to 45,089, bringing the total toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria amounted to about 51 thousand people. The earthquake and subsequent strong aftershocks also injured more than 108 people. Thousands of people are in Turkey, and millions are hiding in tents or seeking to move to other cities.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has pledged to rebuild homes within a year, but it will be months before thousands of people can leave tents or shipping containers and daily food lines and move into permanent housing.
