A judicial source in Tunisia confirmed on Friday the decision to ban travel to the head of the Ennahda Islamic Movement and the dissolved speaker of parliament, Rachid Ghannouchi.
The court source stated that the decision was made by the Ariana court in relation to Ghannouchi and a number of other persons involved in the investigation of the case related to the parallel security apparatus.
The case was known as the movement’s “secret apparatus” when it led government after the 2011 elections.
Leftist opposition parties accuse Ennahda of secretly operating this apparatus, infiltrating government agencies and being involved in political assassinations, which the movement denies.
Leaders of the movement said the party was unaware of the travel ban decision.
“Rached Ghannouchi is at large and has no plans to travel at this time except after the fall of the coup,” said Maher Madhub, media chief in the office of the president of the dissolved parliament.
